I work intuitively. I do not necessarily have an idea of what each piece will look like at the end. I let my materials speak to me as I follow their direction.

When I make a bead, I select initial colors of glass cane and have ideas of pattern, but I change, add and subtract in the midst of creating. Color is a force for my work. I am especially drawn to clear crisp color.

When working with metals, I like to pick up and work with different pieces and shapes, distress the shards and bits, and put them together till the idea develops and takes hold.

I find what I like and follow its lead.

I let the muse speak to me--I do not speak to the muse!

John Gleason
